Brake Repair
We measure the pads and rotors and show you the readings. If you have 6mm of pad left you do not need brakes yet, and we would rather tell you that and see you again in six months.
What the job involves
- Pull the wheels and measure pad thickness and rotor thickness against the minimum spec.
- Check for scoring, heat cracking, warping and uneven wear, and inspect the calipers and slide pins — a sticking caliper will eat a new set of pads.
- Replace pads and rotors where they are needed, or resurface rotors where there is enough material, which is cheaper and which a lot of shops no longer offer.
- Check and, where needed, flush the brake fluid — it absorbs water over time and that is what gives you a soft pedal.
When you need it
- Squealing when you brake, or a grinding noise, which means the pads are gone
- The pedal feels soft, or travels further than it used to
- The car pulls to one side under braking
- Vibration through the pedal when slowing from speed
- The brake warning light is on
