Which tire is right for your car?
Most people arrive knowing roughly what they want to spend and very little else, which is fine — that is what we are here for. Here is the shape of the choice.
All-Season
Most cars and SUVs in the Sacramento Valley.
The default for this climate, and for good reason — we get hot, dry summers and wet winters, and almost no snow at valley elevation. A good all-season handles all of that.
All-Terrain
Trucks and SUVs that leave the pavement.
More aggressive tread for dirt, gravel and mud. Noisier on the highway and generally shorter-lived than a highway tire, which is a fair trade if you actually go off-road and a bad one if you do not.
Performance
Sports cars and drivers who want sharper steering.
Softer compounds and stiffer sidewalls. Noticeably better grip and response, at the cost of tread life and ride comfort.
EV-Specific
Teslas and other electric vehicles.
EVs are heavier and deliver torque instantly, which chews through ordinary tires. EV-rated tires carry the load rating and use compounds built for it, and many are designed to cut road noise in a cabin with no engine to mask it.
Touring
Commuters covering serious mileage.
Built for tread life and a quiet ride. If you drive Highway 50 every day, this is usually the sensible money.
Light Truck
Towing, hauling and heavy loads.
Higher load ratings and stiffer construction. If you tow, the load index matters more than the tread pattern.
Where to find your tire size
It is moulded into the sidewall of your current tires, and it reads something like 225/65R17.
- 225 — the width of the tread in millimetres.
- 65 — the sidewall height, as a percentage of that width.
- R17 — the wheel diameter in inches. R is for radial, which essentially every modern tire is.
The same numbers are printed on a placard inside the driver's door jamb, along with the pressures your vehicle is supposed to run. If the tires on the car now are a different size to the placard, somebody changed them at some point — worth mentioning when you call.
What you get when you buy tires here
- Mounting and balancing included. Torqued to specification with a torque wrench, and the old tires disposed of.
- A straight answer about how many you need. If two will do and your vehicle can take a mismatched pair safely, we will say so.
- An alignment check. New tires on a car that is out of alignment is money thrown away, and we run a Hunter alignment machine.
- Free flat repairs afterwards on tires we fitted, where the damage is in the repairable area.
- Open seven days. Including Sunday, when the other tire shops on Sunrise Blvd are shut.

Do not drive on it any further than you have to. Call us on (916) 635-7333 and we will tell you whether it is worth bringing in — a nail in the tread is usually a repair, not a new tire.
