Suspension & Steering

Worn suspension shows up as tire wear long before it shows up as a bad ride. If your tires are wearing unevenly and an alignment does not hold, this is usually where the problem actually is.

What the job involves

  • Inspect the shocks and struts for leaks, and check the bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends and sway bar links for play.
  • Road test where the symptom is a noise or a handling complaint rather than something visible.
  • Quote for the parts that are actually worn, in the order they matter.
  • Align the vehicle afterwards — any steering or suspension replacement changes the geometry.

When you need it

  • The car keeps bouncing after a bump, or dives hard under braking
  • Clunks or knocks over rough surfaces
  • Cupped or scalloped wear across a tire's tread
  • An alignment that will not stay set
  • Vague or wandering steering
